ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, we return to the three operational principles or conceptual pillars of OPE introduced in Chapter 1: interaction, distance, and openness. We review some of the key points presented in previous chapters. First, we clarify our re-conceptualisation of OPE interaction as agentic transactions. We then review the concept of distance using Dewey's theory of transactionalism to present a more expansive perspective of OPE distance in contrast to some of the extant deficit perspectives. Finally, we bring this together to consider the interplay between interaction, distance, and openness and their roles in opening up meaningful spaces for OPE students.
