ABSTRACT

All hypnotherapists know how important it is to build rapport with any client before undertaking any trance work with them. It is usually an absolute delight to work with children because they have such vivid imaginations and often little constraints – obviously depending on their age, personal experiences and circumstances. An important stage of building a good therapeutic relationship is to demonstrate to the child in a fun way how powerful and clever their special mind/imagination is. Children usually enjoy the different experiences each time and find it easy to go from the conscious state to the hypnotic state. Whilst using the scripts, the hypnotherapist will gain important insights which will inform the initial assessment. Gaining information about the child’s senses is essential i.e. whether they are visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, olfactory or gustatory.
