ABSTRACT

Younger children in particular can have boundless energy and then suddenly they may just fall asleep. However, some children have particular problems which make it difficult for them to relax or get to sleep. So this is a really good script to use with a child who presents as being hyperactive and for those who have been diagnosed with a particular issue e.g. said to be on the autistic spectrum; having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or Asperger’s Syndrome. Nowadays, children of all ages can find it hard to wind down because they are constantly being stimulated by technology and they become dependent on it (sometimes addicted to it) for entertainment. It is also important to help the child understand that they need to prepare for sleep i.e. gradually wind down, rather than just expecting it to happen automatically after they have finished whatever they have been doing.
