ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the statistics regarding sex offenders and offenses. The public has a misperception about how many sex offenders there are in society and this chapter provides facts using Uniform Crime Report and National Crime Victimization Survey data. The chapter examines the prevalence of sex offending in the areas of child sexual abuse, adult sexual abuse, college victimization, and internet sex offenses. It also provides offender profiles for juvenile offenders, female offenders, as well as data on incarceration and recidivism.
