ABSTRACT

Adaptive leadership is concerned with the organization’s effective adaptation to changing environmental realities. Like systemic leadership, it takes a systems approach. The primary goal of adaptive leadership is to develop and foster the adaptive capacity of the organization. Adaptation refers to changing or, more specifically, learning how to be effective in a changing environment. Adaptive leadership emerged from transformational, situational, contingency, and complexity theories. In many ways, it is a derivative of the transformational leadership approach and includes many of the attributes of systemic leadership.
