ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the general state of the world in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. It highlights some of the failures of leadership in every domain. This is followed by a description of the pace of technical change, which has speeded up all walks of life, and how this pace of change exceeds most people’s adaptive capacities. It also explains the findings of the new sciences and how this impacts organizations and decision-making. The systemic challenges facing the world are outlined, and the leadership capacities and skills that are now needed are explored.
