ABSTRACT

This chapter charts the run-up to the coronavirus and how leaders refused to acknowledge the possibility of a pandemic. It discusses the skills needed to handle a crisis and the importance of identifying new realities that hint at future crises as soon as possible. It discusses the impact of new realities and the important distinction between technical and adaptive work. Many leaders fail to make this distinction and thus never do the adaptive work.

It concludes with a discussion on crisis management and the important leadership capacity of courage.
