ABSTRACT

Homemade receivers can be patterned from established designs for which patent protections have expired or designs for which permission is acquired, usually by paying a nominal fee to access a model. The home builder may also strike out on their own and develop an independently conceived design using prior arts as inspiration. The unlicensed builder must respect local or state laws, as more states are now requiring registration of homemade arms. If the unlicensed person seeks to manufacture a regulated firearm, such as a suppressor, in order to be lawfully manufactured, the proposed item must be registered and a payment of appropriate tax made.
