ABSTRACT

For this chapter, I shall move in another direction by focusing on the prefix ‘trans*,’ which means, in other words, ‘to move beyond’ or ‘to cross over.’ The first question we should ask ourselves concerns what trans* crosses beyond? My aim in this chapter – like the preceding chapters – is not necessarily to review all of the literature and so become obsessed only with the practice of citational practices, but rather to situate trans* discourse in order to see how it advances our three perspectives. Where can trans* discourse be situated? However, to be clear, it is not clear, even to me, that I am making the correct moves. I am myself engaged in a movement of thought, and when thought moves, that is, when it crosses boundaries of paradigms, it sometimes has as its only recourse invention of a new possibility.
