ABSTRACT

Research shows that successful interns often become successful employees. According to the National Association of College and Employers, over 50% of interns are often converted to full-time employees. In this chapter the reader will explore the roles, benefits, challenges, and intended outcomes of internships in business while also taking a closer look at internships from a theoretical perspective. This chapter will expand the readers knowledge of internships as a high-impact practice, explore the effects of both virtual and international internship experiences, and discover the theories that help to guide our understanding of the concept. The corresponding quiz will assist the reader in grasping the main ideas outlined in this chapter.
