ABSTRACT

Sounding Emerging Media presents a contextual landscape emerging from the histories and practices within the three disciplines of electroacoustic composition, electronic literature and games development. The methodologies employed are inspired by practice-based research and are also a response to the writings of Deleuze and Guattari. At the outset of my research into electroacoustic composition, electronic literature and games development I approached the process from a position of ignorance and practicality. It was a decision based on a desire to develop a pragmatic progression. The emerging path was influenced by practice and the continuance of theoretical deliberation. My approach draws on creativity, producing works that utilize the media platforms available, influenced from a need to remove any bias learnt in formal music training and practice. The emergent properties of electroacoustic composition, electronic literature and games development are influenced by my participation in an ever-changing world involving interaction with audiences and digital platforms. In so doing, I am journeying beyond a locatedness, beyond a fixed world of artistic ideas, beyond traditions and genres, moving into what might be.
