ABSTRACT

With the established definition of the city and criteria to measure it, the next step is to investigate the drivers which can lead cities in various directions. They experienced both types of evolutionary drivers: ambitions (goals) and crisis. Today, Berlin, Budapest and Warsaw are shaped by these two constituting experiences of adaptation and change. Adaptation of the former breweries for cultural purposes is not rare. The change in the economic situation was intertwined with two strong drivers: the suspension of the custom duties in trade between the Polish province and the rest of Russia and the construction of the railway. Fluid design of meandering streets made orientation between almost identical buildings difficult and taxi drivers hated it when clients ordered courses for Ursynow. The transition brought two important changes to Ursynow life: reconstruction of the local government and the free-market economy.
