ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses why the actor should give a little space between “Action!” and the first line of dialogue. This small adjustment will help the editor cut into the scene when they edit during post-production. If the actor gives the editor two to three beats of natural behavior between “Action!” and the first line of the scene, the editor will have many options. It introduces the ideas that editors often cut on physical movement, and that acting on camera can be viewed as a “flipbook.” The point that all technical acting must be combined with honest behavior is explored. There is an original sample scene and an exercise at the end of the chapter.
