ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how crucial it is for the actor to be able to consistently hit their mark and make the director’s blocking look natural. It examines how the actor needs to direct themselves at home before arriving on the set based on clues found in the script and how quickly they must adapt to new direction. It outlines three solid techniques for successfully hitting the mark and how to cultivate this necessary skill. It explores the role of the cinematographer and how the camera operates on a horizontal focal plane. In addition, it provides the actor with techniques to stay in frame when standing on their mark. There is an original sample scene and an exercise at the end of the chapter.
