ABSTRACT

Humanistic psychology and multiculturalism need to be fused for the express purpose of achieving greater success in serving a culturally diverse global community. The after-school program Kidz n’ Coaches is an example of this fusion, as it brings culturally diverse college student volunteers and emerging children together in prosocial group activity. This chapter discusses group dynamics of a multicultural humanistic praxis and how Kidz n’ Coaches has engaged cultural diversity for over 30 years. The author ultimately explores the power of growth promoting-relationships for the holistic development of emerging children and college volunteers. The humanistic and multicultural themes of diverse relationships, freedom, trust, and empathy are explored in the program to build a stronger multicultural humanistic psychology theory and praxis.
