ABSTRACT

Existential moments are facilitated by self-exploration, self-disclosure, and the realization of the impermanence of life in our own mortality. These moments are seminal in human growth and development, while being a foundational concept in humanistic psychology. This chapter explores what an existential moment means for the multicultural humanistic psychological after-school program Kidz n’ Coaches. The author offers an autobiographical account of how this program offers existential moments for emerging children and college student volunteers, while further elaborating on what an existential moment means for fusing multiculturalism with humanistic psychology in praxis. The research of humanistic psychologist Clark Moustakas is utilized in this chapter to focus on what existential moments mean for children.
