ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents that VOX has institutional power at all levels of government in Spain’s vast layers of multilevel governance. The party counts on, at present, some 644 elected representatives who take advantage of their elected office to give voice to anti-abortion proposals, criticize gender equality measures, advocate for radical tax cuts, and glorify a better past. The book painted a picture of the sociological profile of VOX’s supporters. Of note is that VOX’s supporters tend to break away from those of the traditional populist right-wing parties as well as those of the new parties in substantive ways. Government formation in Spain, particularly at the regional and municipal level, is no stranger to complex party negotiations over government formation and both minority governments, supported via confidence and supply arrangements, and formal coalitions are commonplace.
