ABSTRACT

In this trailblazing essay, Godard brings Deleuze into the fold of translation studies to develop a new vocabulary for translation as “event,” “transcreation,” “clinamen” (creative swerve), or “assemblage” of complex relations. In Deleuze’s thought about language, Godard recognizes the possibility of unfolding her associative or combinatory theory of translation that privileges movement and becoming rather than simple substitution. Toward the end of the chapter, a large section called “Deleuze in Translation” includes an overview of the history and dissemination of translations of Deleuze’s oeuvre into English.
