ABSTRACT

Judging by many of the events we witnessed at the onset of the twenty-first century, a present-day man, despite numerous negative experiences in this respect, remains obedient and is still capable of conforming to authorities (even to very dubious ones). In this chapter, we point to present-day examples of pathological obedience, which led to tragic consequences as well as to examples of disobedience that avoided tragedies. We also emphasize how important it is to educate people (particularly young people) on the dangers of thoughtless obedience and how important it is to be able to think rationally when we are given commands.
