ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we start with a summary and discussion of the findings in the previous chapters. After that, we discuss briefly the strengths, limitations, and future prospects of this book. From our perspective, the three-level (student, school, and country) multi-dimensional research design and the technical consideration of the cross-cultural differences in school climate and its effect on reading achievement could strengthen our conclusions in this book. While the exclusive usage of PISA 2009 and 2012 student and school data, the imperfect research methods being used, and the lack of sound theories in predictor selection and model building could limit the interpretation of our conclusions. Considering the questioning of PISA 2009 Shanghai sampling, we would also talk a bit more about the “hukou” policies and school community issues in Shanghai. Based on the reflection of the findings, strengths, and limitations of this book, we expect to utilize some sound organizational theories, appropriate sources of data, and advanced models in future research to catch more causal relationships.
