ABSTRACT
Sometimes, we should just admit that we are confused or bewildered. That is the central theme of this chapter. The climate crisis is so enormous that the best response to it, for now, is a sort of uncanny bewilderment. In the face of objectively weird happenings, those associated with the effects of climate change in particular, certainty about how things are likely to go can itself be a dangerous illusion. The recommendation to abide in bewilderment should not be taken as a counsel to political paralysis, however. On the contrary, it is meant to give us a chance to catch our breath and appreciate the full enormity of the challenges we face. This can help us take our responsibilities for doing something about the climate crisis more seriously than we have so far.
