ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a short introduction to the Shickshinny Knights and explores the various sectarian and ego-driven divisions which often plague such fringe organizations. One of these offshoots from the Shickshinny Knights was the Tennessee Knights which moved even further to the extreme right and linked up with various white supremacist groups. It explores the origins of the mysterious Knights in the interwar far-right anti-semitic underground populated by White Russian exiles, Nazi sympathizers and US homegrown rightists, nativists and Jew-haters. The Pichel Knights of Malta is both so strange and so obscure that following its antics can be frustrating. Yet the group played an absolutely central role in Goleniewski’s life in America for decades, and the real challenge is to understand just why that was the case. After the 1981—1982 split in the Knights, Nazarenko helped launch the association of family commanders and Hereditary Knights and began linking them to Sokolnicki.
