ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a detailed account of Goleniewski’s claims to be the former Tsarevich Alexei. It examines when he first made the claims both to the CIA and to the press. It discusses another would-be claimant to the Russian royal family who claimed that she was former Tsarina Anastasia with whom Goleniewski was first connected before a major falling out. Goleniewski’s controversial wedding as a ‘Romanoff’ also caused much consternation in Russian exile circles. The role of Goleniewski’s supporters in Conservative, anti-communist and far right circles is also explored. The chapter concludes by examining the intelligence and extremist links of Goleniewski’s publishers, Robert Speller and sons.
