ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a brief overview of the major political, social and economic events in Europe post-World War 1 till 1924. It consists, inter alia, of extracts from works by Limperg and Schmidt respectively, published (it is believed) for the first time in English. The book provides translations of major works of Schmidt containing the essence of his organic relativist theory. It examines the transportation of European ideas on how to account for inflation into the Anglo-American accounting literature. The book provide a synthesis of the myriad of factors influencing the development of Sweeney’s Stabilized Accounting. Goldmarkbilanz and Tageswertbilanz proposals of Betriebswirtschaft theorists are examined and speculation proffered that Schmidt’s ideas on stabilization had the greatest impact on Sweeney’s Stabilized Accounting.
