ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 illustrates an important concept – parents and grandparents can become an integral part of a cohesive, ongoing conversation on climate change that educates the family and promotes action through family activity. Even family pets can take part in rallies for the environment with their family. Families can enjoy nature together by relaxing, hiking, having fun, and just being still. Grandparents are also role models and can partake in climate change activities to enhance the environment. Violet and her grandmother created an oyster recovery zone together. Elders Climate Action is a nonprofit project that seeks to educate and engage the older generation to support young people in their quest for support for climate change. Parents as role models are emphasized in this chapter through organizations such as Mom Clean Air Force, Climate Mama, Science Moms, and Climate Dads all seeking as their goal to support their children in climate action. The Rubenstein family is highlighted as a family unit that has worked together to create education and action for climate change. The chapter concludes with tips for families to create a healthy planet together.
