ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 provides activities to define and understand climate change, dissolve misconceptions, and give young people a voice and choice through action. It reviews what educators are teaching in terms of climate change and initiates activities for greater understanding and action in school systems and counseling environments as kids develop. Examples of classroom action is a letter written by a student to stop plastic straws in restaurants, artwork reflecting feelings about climate change, projective play, and the use of expressive arts for all grades through art lessons K-6 to validate climate change feelings. Highlights of the chapter are a project by a high school environmental science club and classroom climate lessons, including NASA Climate Kids. The chapter summarizes the importance of climate change in the curriculum and teaching the UN global goals for sustainable development.
