ABSTRACT

The fifth chapter begins by examining the situation leading up to the changed behaviour of Pakistan as a result of the tragic incident of September 11. Explaining the changed geostrategic landscape of Pakistan in the run-up to 9/11, which was when America sternly sought support in its War on Terror, and Pakistan complied, this chapter looks deeper into the causes which led to the transformed behaviour of Pakistan. It further elucidates Pakistan’s U-turn on its Taliban policy as a result of US involvement and explains in detail, the reasons; in the internal situation of Pakistan, in the prevailing regional geopolitical compulsions, and in the altered global milieu, consequent upon the September 11 attack. This chapter provides a detailed understanding of US involvement in Pakistan as a result of the 9/11 attacks and enables readers to underline and appreciate the finer nuances involved in this realigned relationship.
