ABSTRACT

The Conclusion underlines the thread which propels the United States’ involvement in Pakistan by shedding light onto the overall geostrategic interest of the US in the South Asian region, starting at the very beginning, when the domination extended by the erstwhile colonial power began receding. Foregrounding the basis of the United States’ South Asian forays in the geopolitical trail left behind by colonial Britain, it highlights the suitability of the theory of the ‘Grand Strategy of Primacy’ as an explanatory tool to use in understanding and analysing US-Pakistan relations. It thus lays bare the actual reason for US flip-flops with respect to its relations with Pakistan on critical issues like nuclear proliferation, issues of democracy and dictatorship, terrorism, etc.
