ABSTRACT

Working in conjunction with organizational and school climate, the curriculum stands the biggest chance of making profound changes in student learning. Young adolescents need opportunities to learn about other cultures, religions, races, and philosophies. Teachers must create a positive and accepting classroom climate, check curriculum for bias, and find ways to help their students work and cooperate with persons who are different from themselves. Banks and Banks (2016) suggest four levels for integrating ethnic content into a culturally competent curriculum:
