ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how companies can contribute to sustainable development in a variety of ways. For example through CSR, through which a number of principles and motivations entailing responsibility can be employed as a point of departure; by operating transparently and being held accountable on the basis of corporate governance; by means of providing sustainable products and services based on an integrated approach; future-oriented business practices, taking into account the expected and unexpected developments, including social trends, technical innovations and decreasing natural resources. A professional who wants to contribute to sustainable development requires a number of special competences.
