ABSTRACT

There has been a gradual realisation of the importance of emotional wellbeing in young people as well as in adults. Some of the key milestones that demonstrate this come from both the health service and from education. This chapter considers how this increased awareness that young learners have had a raw deal has led to a concerted effort to do something about it. As so often happens, the momentum builds up through a succession of events until a consensus is reached about what needs to happen, how it will happen and who is responsible for bringing some coherence to the way forward. Local Transformation Plans for Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing came about as a direct result of Future in Mind and – as a result of all those involved in delivering services working together – followed its aim of improving services and access to them.
