ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how to help younger generations become more resilient, but first some thoughts on what is meant by resilience. A child who is naturally resilient will cope better with additional difficulties, such as having send, being ill, or not doing well at school, whereas in other children their lack of resilience will make it harder for them to overcome any extra difficulties. Young people need to be educated on how to use social networks safely, so they can enjoy the benefits without finding themselves in difficult situations. The term ‘digital literacy’ is now being used as a way of stressing the importance of young people being able to understand and use technology and become aware of the pitfalls as well as the benefits. One of the ways that is used for resolving bullying and other disputes is through ‘Restorative Justice’ or ‘Restorative Practice’ as it is often called in schools.
