ABSTRACT

From rubbish bins and benches, to parking lots and shopping centres, this book has traversed a wide range of unremarkable elements and spaces of our built environment driven by one simple overarching objective: to help us think differently and more innovatively about them and how they are designed. Looking around us at the environments we use every day, we must question whether the elements and spaces can be redesigned in ways that better serve our needs and the needs of the planet. We need to ask, how can these elements and spaces be more sustainable, salutogenic and playable? How can they be more remarkable?
