ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to the book, by outlining the background and motivations for studying mobile news consumption behavior. The chapter begins with factual statistics on the predominant role of smartphones in the general public’s news consumption, followed by a description of a series of empirical studies, which the authors conducted between July and October 2016. We will provide a summary of our key observations and findings, and then we present a research, which outlines various facets and dimensions of the mobile news consumption process that we investigated. The research model highlights the key topics and thematic discussions presented in the remaining chapters of this book.
