ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the role and implications of culture diversity and cultural proximity within organizations. The primary research findings are structured around three main subjects: a theoretical exploration of the notions of cultural proximity and cultural diversity, obtained by employing different theoretical lenses, suggestions on ways to design tools and methods to enhance the role of cultural diversity as an important catalyst for innovation, and a discussion on the challenges and opportunities that cultural diversity entails. This work is based on a wide range of empirical evidence originating from different industries and contexts. More specifically, it focuses on the following areas: ICT tools and methods; entrepreneurship and start-ups; and innovation process. This work also poses some challenges and identifies opportunities for entrepreneurs, managers, and policymakers. The successful management of an innovation strategy may require a careful evaluation of social relationships with external actors.
