ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an investigation of cultural proximity dynamics occurring within a team, examining the role of culture and social value inside the team. Several psychological studies have investigated, classified, and appraised personal value: in this chapter the construct of social axioms will be used as a way of considering, describing, and measuring culture. Social axioms as “generalized beliefs about oneself, the social and physical environment.” The concept of social axiom is intended to offer a cognitive interpretation of the way individuals relate to others and their environment, as well as examining the relevance of beliefs in different social contexts. Based on the original survey data, we construct a social value evaluation model to explore the interaction between the heterogeneity of cultural characteristics in teams and team performance.
