ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the challenges posed by digitalization the communications within and outside organizations. Actors can interact virtually by means of information technologies or they can communicate through face-to-face interactions. The latter have been shown to have a crucial role in facilitating economic activities, as they enable the development of shared values and a common vision. However, recent technological advances have stimulated collaborations and interactions between people located in different places. Therefore, people working within the same company are also called to collaborate and communicate employing ICT tools. This chapter is intended to add to the debate exploring the effect of ICT-based interactions on innovative activities, the moderating role played by cultural proximity. Furthermore, the chapter clarifies the circumstances under which such interactions are more effective as well as the implications for scholars and practitioners.
