ABSTRACT

The leader of the management team plays a particularly significant role in its performance because he or she is positioned above the other team members in the organizational hierarchy and has more access to power and influence and higher decision authority compared to them. In the literature on team leadership, there are two different perspectives on effectiveness: the leadership style perspective and the functional leadership perspective. A series of studies has shown that specific leadership styles are related to effective team performance. Person-focused leadership was defined as behaviors that facilitate “the behavioral interactions, cognitive structures, and attitudes that must be developed before members can work effectively as a team.” The kind of leadership style that fits one management team, with one set of members in a specific situation, will not necessarily work well under another set of conditions.
