ABSTRACT

This chapter presents tasks and exercises that can be used to help management teams to become more effective. An external consultant can run the process, or the team can carry out the exercises without any external assistance. The exercise will also give the team members practice in dialogue skills, such as asking questions, being curious, and listening. The exercise can be conducted without any prior preparation, but people usually e-mail the questions to the team members in advance, so they have a chance to reflect on the questions. The interviewer will not voice his or her own opinions but rather curiously explore the answers of the person being interviewed. Most members of management teams are interdependent in different ways, meaning that they need to collaborate and coordinate their actions to achieve their business unit’s goals. The awareness of who is dependent upon whom and to what extent they are interdependent is, however, often lacking in teams.
