ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 discusses issues related to the roles and responsibilities of managers who should strive to combat fear in the workplace. These roles are conventionally referred to as follows: supporter, generation connector, integrator, career path creator, effectiveness influencer, team role coordinator, natural leader, action man, value builder, and value leader. The chapter presents various ways of shaping a culture free from fear, the general principles of creating such a culture, and a fear-based typology of cultures (a culture of courage-zest, a culture of prudence-respect, a culture of fear-trauma, a culture of faith-magic). The last part of the chapter discusses the benefits to be gained by an organization and all its stakeholders if the formation of such a culture is successful.
