ABSTRACT

University has come to mean something different within Australian society than it did a generation ago. In this concluding chapter, I seek to make connections between the empirical data from the six case studies and policies in higher education. I propose some practical strategies for those working in policy and in university-based pathway programs which would make the experience of transitioning to university life easier and more rewarding for young working-class men. The aim here is to consider ways to improve the experiences of young men of first-in-family status.
