ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Campbell, a Chinese-Australian young man who is passionate about business. Campbell, who attended an all-boys, low fee-paying private school in the western suburbs of Sydney, gained admittance to a respected university in Sydney’s central business district, which appealed to him because of its reputation and Catholic culture. What makes Campbell’s story unique is that, after the first semester of university, he secured employment in a call centre where he excelled and gained important insights into himself as well as the professional culture of Sydney. This employment experience did not side-track him but instead enhanced his aspiration to complete his degree.
