ABSTRACT

This chapter captures the story of Manny, who attended a state school in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Manny is very family focused and openly frames his aspirational trajectory in terms of his pride in his Pacific Islander heritage. At the university, he attends he studies engineering, which is highly competitive and contrasts greatly with his easy-going and casual nature. As a result, his experience at university is quite muddled and fragmented and he searches for places where he can feel valuable.
