ABSTRACT

This chapter examines Dominic, an Indigenous male who attended a public school in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. Dominic is resilient and determined to succeed at university. Dominic does not identify strongly with his Indigenous heritage and instead presents a subjectivity aligned with an individualised discourse of choice which resonates with his competitive course of study. In terms of widening participation, his experience highlights the importance of sacrifice as a contributing factor strengthening his high aspirations.
