ABSTRACT

This chapter situates and positions the book and explains the rationale and primary objectives that the authors set out to achieve in writing it. It describes the genesis and evolution of the research project from which this book was generated. Details are provided regarding the conduct of the research for the book including data collection and analysis. It then outlines the distinctive features of the New Zealand corporate governance landscape. This provides the context to explain why it is a particularly important place, pertinent to a wide range of jurisdictions, from which the reader can gain useful insights into the theory and practice of responsible leadership in governance. The chapter concludes by providing an overview of the book’s structure and describes the key themes and features of each chapter.
