ABSTRACT

Developing a Performance Management Plan starts with defining what performance management is intended to do for the agency. The plan describes the purpose, how performance management works, who is involved and the aspirational hopes. The plan can be expected to change from year to year as practice improves the sophistication of the work for all involved. Critical components of the plan include a clear focus on activities to support improving and sustaining the performance management culture focused through clarity about data collection, monitoring performance and coordinated improvement efforts. This chapter provides the structure and suggested components for the planning document. The Performance Management Plan, including the clearly stated written process for implementation is the culmination of all of the components and processes outlined in the previous chapters.
