ABSTRACT

Setting the scene for the following chapters, it is asserted that business-as-usual is a recipe for oblivion for the companies that practice it. We look briefly at the new landscape in which business is operating and the changes that are required. Definitions of “corporate responsibility” and “digital era” are offered, and the crucial connection between digital technology and sustainability is made. There is a warning of a possible dystopian future if climate change is not addressed. Changes happening right now are explored, in global policy, the workplace, and in companies’ acknowledgment of their responsibility revolution.
