ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces a proper transformation approach that will provide a better and quicker process to take an organization from the maintenance functional setup to the platform ownership setup in the post-maintenance era, based on reviewing the actions that have been taken in the pioneer cases. The key to the success of any organizational changes is management support. Once the decision is made to migrate to the post-maintenance era, management must start to prepare for the changes with the necessary priorities and resources. Companies with dynamic cultures may require less preparedness as employees are used to organizational changes. The tangible change in migrating to the post-maintenance era should be on the goals and values of equipment management. Technical changes include two major areas: employee skills and technologies applied to equipment management. Before making any technical or structural changes, programs oriented toward employee motivation should be implemented.
