ABSTRACT

Beck has shown a desire to ‘democratise’ psychological therapy by making it more accessible to clients. He has therefore been an unsurprising supporter of the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) project in England, initiated in 2008. A key English ally, Professor David. M. Clark, has led this project. Views of the project are quite polarised. Strengths include the ability to offer a service to large numbers of people, with generally quite good efficacy. Weaknesses are the project’s proneness to local variations in standards and bureaucratic inflexibilities.
