ABSTRACT

The second part of the book focuses on case examples of mediations, drawn from the author’s own practice.

For nearly 20 years the author has been involved in the professional training of mediators. She has found that the most significant aspects of the training are not the lectures but the practical role-play sessions where students have an opportunity to experience the often charged emotional atmosphere of mediation. This section of the book uses case examples as a way in which the reader can get close to experiencing this.

The details of the cases have been altered so that the parties in the dispute are not recognisable. However, they are presented in very realistic language as each disputant describes their narrative with the mediator.

Each case is followed by a detailed description of the mediation, using theoretical and personal reflection.
